Locating specific pipes and cables in large underground networks is becoming increasingly complex. Ground distortion effects, caused by differing soil types and proximity to other conductors, make the operator’s job more difficult and time-consuming. The most important requirements for a locator under these circumstances are ease of use, accuracy and reliability. Radiodetection’s RD7000+ addresses these needs with several ground breaking features that deliver accurate, reliable and repeatable measurements. The new RD7000+ range of locators are powerful successors to the industry standard RD4000 and RD7000 families. RD7000+ delivers exceptional performance in areas of interference.

Combined with its new high performance transmitter
the PCM+ accurately and easily locates
and maps the pipeline for up to 19 miles, providing
simultaneous measurement of PCM Current and Voltage
Gradient, even in areas where there is contact
with other metallic structures, interference,
or congestion. This eliminates the need for the
pipeline technician to perform direct connection
'current spans' and manual calculations to determine
CP currents along the pipeline reducing false
indications and minimizing unnecessary excavations.
Any current leakage fault in the pipeline coating
can be further narrowed down to within 3 feet
by use of the A frame.

The Fault Wizard is a truly portable, relatively
inexpensive, and user-friendly fault location
system for primary underground cable. The system
is based on the new automated arc-reflection
technology (AART) developed by IUP. The display
shows the distance in feet or meters to the
fault location. The display also shows the fault
type (open or short), the battery voltage, the
velocity of propagation setting, the charge
voltage, and whether the system is armed for
waveform storage for retrieval and viewing on
a computer (desktop or laptop) by utilizing
the Fault Wizard Software. However, as stated
before, viewing of the waveforms is not required
since the Fault Wizard gives an automatic readout
of distance to the fault location. Since the
system is battery operated, it can be used in
remote locations. click here to learn more
